Bins are one of those things every home needs, but nobody wants on display. For this Port Melbourne home, the bins were stored right beside the front door, the first thing visitors saw on arrival. Our solution was a custom timber bin screen that hides them neatly while adding a modern touch to the entry.
The Design
We built the screen from solid hardwood using vertical battens set inside a clean timber frame. The vertical lines suit the home's brickwork and modern style, and the gaps between battens allow airflow, which helps prevent bin odours from building up.
The screen is sized to cover the bins from the path and front door while leaving easy access from the side, so taking the bins out on collection day is still quick and simple.
A Tidy, Low-Maintenance Base
Underneath, we laid a pebble base in place of bare soil or concrete. It drains well, keeps the area clean and gives a neat, finished look that ties in with the surrounding paving.
