We specialise in structured, purposeful planting. Every species is selected for its role in the space, whether that's softening a retaining wall, providing privacy, or creating a statement entry.

We Design Planting To
Planting Styles
Feature & Specimen
Planting is what brings a completed landscape to life. We select species based on the site conditions, the style of the build, and how much maintenance the client wants long term. Whether that means a structured row of mature specimen trees, clipped hedging for privacy, architectural planting in Corten steel planters, or a layered garden bed with native groundcovers, every plant has a reason for being there. We source mature stock where the project calls for it and install to a standard that gives the planting the best chance of establishing well.
See how this approach comes together in practice: contemporary Mediterranean garden design in Williamstown & Altona, a look at two recent bayside projects and the plant palette behind them.
Good planting is more than filling an empty bed. We build a plant palette around the light, soil, drainage, wind, available space and the amount of maintenance you want to take on. The plan can include feature trees, screening hedges, layered garden beds, native species, architectural plants and groundcovers that work with the existing structure of the yard.
Mature specimen trees can create impact quickly, while hedges and batten screens help define privacy without making a garden feel closed in. For smaller Melbourne gardens, structured planting and carefully selected pots can add height and texture without overwhelming the usable area. We source plants suited to the brief and install them with appropriate soil preparation and spacing.
Planting can be delivered as a standalone garden upgrade or alongside paving, retaining walls, turf and a new deck. See our Retaining Wall Builder service for integrated raised beds and level changes, or Turf Installation for a coordinated lawn and garden finish.
We install feature trees, screening hedges, native gardens, tropical species, groundcovers, and ornamental plantings, sourced from specialist growers for best quality and establishment.

Our Work

Toorak
Ornamental Pear Screening & Layered Planting
A Toorak garden with upright ornamental pears creating a repeated planting rhythm along a dark boundary. Clipped hedging, rounded shrubs and low flowering plants add layers beneath the trees, while pale gravel and large-format paving create contrast with the greenery. This is a local example of PJR's work in Toorak.

Albert Park
Natural Boulder Feature & Gravel Garden
A relaxed Albert Park garden shaped around generous natural boulders, warm gravel surfacing and structured planting. A fire pit creates a focal point for gathering, while the pergola provides a defined outdoor living zone behind it. The rock feature and planted borders bring texture and softness through the garden, resulting in a simple, durable landscape with a distinctly natural finish.

Port Melbourne
Curved Garden Pathway & Layered Groundcover
A refined Port Melbourne garden that uses sweeping light-coloured paths to move through dense, low planting. Groundcover softens the pathway edges, while layered silver foliage and architectural plants create contrast and year-round structure. The result is a calm, green outdoor space with a clear sense of movement and a strong connection between paving and planting.
